Hey Carnies;
This Monday night (Nov 23/09) we have a gig. It is called “The Wrecking Ball”. It’s going to be a huge multi-media event @ The Vogue Theatre & The Carnival Band will be the House Band for this event. (think Tonight Show/Letterman where they have a band that does fillers, intros etc) The evening will be hosted by Denis Simpson and Jim Byrnes will be there performing as well.
We’ll only need 5 musicians at the most for the House Band that will be permanently on stage. The rest can bring their instruments and keep them in your laps while they watch the rest of the show from the audience where they can also join in onstage for the song at the beginning of act 2 and the end of act 2 (the end of the show). NOTE: Everyone is more than welcome to come to this event. The more the merrier.
Whoever is part of the House Band will need to attend a sound check/tech during the day on Monday. I’m still waiting on the call times etc from the Stage Manager. If you have the day free or part of it & want to be part of the House Band please give me a call 778-991-5528.
As for the evening here is a break down of events from the Artistic Producer;
1. If one (or more) of the 5 of you can learn “There’s no business like show business” we may start the show with you accompanying Denis Simpson on this song. Depending on his comfort level.
2. There will be some small bits of “connective tissue” throughout the piece where you will play as intro or outro from some of the other performances. This will be clearly laid out for you in a “script” I’m currently putting together.
3. At the beginning of act 2 you will be underscoring a photo montage of by Bill Horne showing people across the province holding up signs in solidarity for the BC artists. We will need a rock/powerful song for this one (Smoke On The Water?)
4. At the very end of the show (end of act 2) it would be great if the whole gang could storm the audience (arcade fire style) and we could try to march people (audience members) somewhere. Maybe to the Art Gallery? The place and march is still TBD.
But these are the ways you’ll be playing that night.
Can you guys bring your own music stands and any furniture/stools you may need for the 5 of you who will be sitting on stage the whole night.
Those are the details…so far. Stay tuned and again if you want to be & can make the Monday sound check foer the House Band please give me a call.
Cheers,
John Cousins
