Bright Light Procession

Jesse, James and Shannon

The Bright Light Procession followed a route through the DTES travelling about 8 blocks from point A (Dr. sun Yat Sen Garden) back to point A

Tim

Right up until the last minute the weather was very wet but the rain stopped for the most part once the procession got under way.

Most members of the Carnival Band were lit up like Christmas trees.

The evening procession circling several blocks in the heart of the DTES promises to be a visual treat. This project promotes local art galleries, public art and artists based in the community.

The procession sets off from Pender and Carrall Sts at 7:00 p.m.

Winterruption 2010 Finale

On Saturday the Carnival Band wrapped up the last of a string of commitments on Granville Island that began on February 13

Goldean in her fabulous new hat

The entire two weeks were great fun, due in no small part to the dedication of the many carnies who were able to make it to the gigs.

Pachiel

Pachiel and Simmah travelled down from Lasqueti Island to play every single ‘Olympic’ gig, including busking, with the Carnival Band.

Simmah and AJ

Simmah and Pachiel are members of Lasqueti’s Bolting Brassicas Marching Band

Drummers Bryan, Brenda, Ann and Diane

Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone who pitched in to make these gigs such a great success

The Carnival Band wrapped up the last of 6 gigs for Place de la Francophonie on Friday night.

Amazingly for February, Friday was the only night of the 6 that the Carnival Band had to play in the rain.

Brenda, Heidi, Susan, Ann

The band would like to thank everyone at Place de la Francophonie who assisted us and helped make this gig so much fun.

Special thanks to Elgin and Annick

Susan, Simmah, Pachiel

We also want to thank our new friends, Erminio, Ben, Elizabeth, Meg, Stuart and Conor of the incomparable and amazing Big Nazo.

It was a blast from start to finish.

All in all a fabulous night of busking on Robson St.

SJ Connor of Shaggy Dog Pix posted a shot of the band on Feb. 23.

The Sun also caught a good shot of the band and Big Nazo on Monday night

Winterruption 2010

The Carnival Band celebrated Winterruption this weekend on Granville Island.

Our friends Mortal Coil (the stilters and dancers) and Big Nazo added colour and joy to the festivities on a very sunny weekend.

Busking in the February Sun

James

The band headed to Creekside Park bright and early to try to scam some face time on the Colbert Report. The plan more or less fizzled.

But, troupers that they are, the band busked the morning and afternoon away until it was time to take the trolley to Granville Island for another date with Big Nazo

Big Nazo had considerably better luck than CB at getting on TV. On their blog are clips of Alien Commander Glort and a few of his troupes on City TV’s Breakfast Television. Also, please check the video of the Carnival Band playing for Big Nazo last Saturday.
