Saltspring Weekend 1 Posted on May 30, 2010 by darryl There are a pile of images from the band’s weekend on Saltspring Island. It’s been busy with little time to process pics so I’ll post them in instalments as I work through them. Imi The band’s first gig was on Friday evening at the venerable Beaver Point Hall, complete with all the modern conveniences such as outdoor privies. Suresh This dance party was a fundraiser for the band to give us an opportunity to reimburse members for some portion of their travel expenses. Three Gig Saturday Posted on May 16, 2010 by darryl Jim the hairdresser and with Roisin, Mario, Jesse, Marc, Steph and Debbie There were three gigs on the docket for Saturday, May 15. At 1:00 the band joined in the Vancouver Craft Beer Week funeral procession parody. The procession/brewpub crawl sashayed from Steamworks to Dix Brewpub and BBQ Following the VCBW gig the band headed for Science World to play for a VanAct organized rally. The rally was a protest against the changes made to the affordable housing promised for the Olympic Village. Fred’s Fancy Fête Fundraiser Posted on May 14, 2010 by darryl We’re having a party to raise money so that our dear buddy Fred can cover the cost of much needed dental work. The Where: 45 West – one door west of the famous Save On Meats sign at 43 W. Hastings. Entrance from the lane only. The When: Friday, May 21, Doors at 8:00 Show at 9:00 going ’til late. The Who: Okestar Slivovica, The Carnival Band, Tim’s Band (you’ll have to show up to find out which one). There will not be a bar. There will be drinks and goodies for sale, the proceeds of which go to Fred. A minimum donation of $10-$20 is strongly encouraged. Dress to the nines !!! No Alcohol ! Please don’t bring booze ! Let’s get Fred back on his feet!

HONK! Boston Doc. Posted on May 9, 2010 by darryl This is possibly the definitive documentary on HONK! and activist street bands Carnival Band cameos (if you see anyone besides devo let us know) are near the beginning but it’s well worth staying until the end.
